We celebrated the opening of our refurbished Reading Room earlier this year with a party for friends, members and locals.
As well as speeches, good food, conversation and celebration, there was plenty of action upstairs in the Billiard Room with committee member Doug demonstrating how the game should be played.
The restoration of the Reading Room - now full of rich timber and flooded with sunlight - was a labour of love for the FMIL committee members. Paint was scraped, floors sanded and beautiful fittings were found to create a warm, inviting place for meetings, book groups, quiet work and peaceful reading.
Pride of place are the original doors proclaiming Gentlemen's Reading Room and Ladies' Reading Room. It's a space for everyone: all welcome.`
